Airport Rental Cars
I was surprised to find out how easy it was to get airport rental cars in Miami. In fact while visiting Miami last month, I discovered there are 16 rental car companies at Miami Airport. The great thing is that they are all just one mile from the airport! It is easy to get there because the airport has a shuttle bus that takes travelers from the airport to the RCC lobby where they can find a car company that suits their needs. All I had to do was get my luggage and wait for a bus marked “Rental Car Shuttle.” to take me to my destination. The next decision you will face is what car you want to rent.
If you’re like me, you will want a convertible so your hair can blow in the warm wind. However, if that is not in your budget there are other rental car choices. Some of the car rentals in Miami at the airport are from the companies Enterprise, Thrifty, E-Z Rent-A-Car, Budget Alamo, and Simply Wheelz by Hertz, National, Avis, and Hertz. Being on a budget myself, I went with Enterprise because they have the lowest rates. Thrifty, E-Z Rent-A-Car and Dollar are also economic choices for airport rental cars. I found there were many smaller companies that offered lower prices than the major agencies but the return policies, times, shuttle services and perks were definitely lacking.
Another requirement for a car rental is you have to be at least 21 years old and you could get a surcharge if you’re under 25. You will also need a driver’s license and credit card. Just remember that you have to drive your airport rental car defensively especially in places like Miami, Florida. I know that I was stuck in traffic jams more than once and even encountered construction. The fact is that Florida is also full of retirees and the number of traffic accidents is higher here than in other parts of the U.S. Keep your eyes on the road and drive your airport rental cars defensively.
